One of the most common things for people to do on Halloween/Samhain is ghost hunting. Why? Well let’s start with the creepy factor. Most everyone is scared of running into the unknown. A ghost, demon, or some type of ghoul. What better night to scare yourself silly than on Halloween night? Many already purposely scare themselves silly between haunted trails, corn mazes, and scary movies. So there is a draw to going on a ghost hunt on Halloween night and just freaking yourself out mentally.
For the more sincere of ghost hunters we recognize the change in atmosphere. It is theorized that during Samhain the Earth’s electromagnetic field (EMF) increases. It is what causes some of the crispness in the air and that electrical feeling. With the increase of EMF comes the possibility that any spirit wishing to make contact with the living has more of an opportunity. They use the EMF in the atmosphere to help manifest.
For those of us who are more in tuned with nature, we can feel those changes. It is possibly what creates the perfect setting for divination on Samhain. With the veil coming to its thinnest point on Samhain, our passed on loved ones have that opportunity to come visit. Combines with higher EMF, one is bound to have a ghostly experience.
So as you set a place at your table for Uncle Joe whom died 10 years ago don’t be surprised if the lights flicker, you hear footsteps in the hall, or maybe hear a soft quiet moan. He is just letting you know that he is there.
